About Kelvin Fu

Kelvin’s pivot to the world of private sector finance began when he received a scholarship to pursue his Masters of Business Administration at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. He was awarded the school’s only official class ring for having excelled in leadership activities and as an alumnus is still deeply involved in organisations he founded during his time there, such as the Johns Hopkins Private Equity And Venture Capital Club, and the Johns Hopkins Young Innovators Corps in Medicine.

Today, Kelvin is the Managing Partner at Gunung Capital, and for his focus on how private investment can drive sustainability, value creation, and change management. As a proud advocate for climate action, he strongly believes that sustainable investment is the future and he’s driving change to make it happen. His work and active participation in the voluntary carbon community is making a huge impact on how financial institutions, businesses, and asset owners in Asia approach environmental issues. With his life’s work and career focused on impact investments, he guides many firms by environmental, social, and governance frameworks.

Kelvin’s work with Gunung Capital

Gunung Capital is a private investment management company focused on impact investments guided by environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks. The management team’s vision is to help the world better protect the environment by investing and supporting carbon markets, encouraging adoption of decarbonisation technology and related innovation, establishing carbon credits as a recognised emerging asset class, and ultimately funnelling more capital into sustainable enterprises. Partnering closely with global investors, policy makers, non-governmental organizations and enterprises, Gunung Capital is committed to making the future of transformation capital flow more seamlessly and efficiently.

As a Managing Partner at Gunung Capital, Kelvin uses the leadership lessons in discipline, resilience, and teamwork that he learnt while in the Singapore military to guide his investment advice for private clients.

Kelvin’s focus on sustainability in relation to private investment has been deeply shaped by his own first-hand witnessing of the effects of climate change during his personal travels. Apart from using this to shape a suitable investment vision for private clients with Gunung Capital, Kelvin has also stepped up his own contributions to disaster relief efforts by partnering with non-governmental organizations as the number of natural disasters such as flooding have been exacerbated by climate change.

Change management is another of Kelvin’s significant interests in both his personal and professional capacities. He was instrumental in charting and implementing the change management at various portfolio companies which involved the transformation of business goals, processes and technologies. This has resulted in a significant turnaround at the businesses from a loss-making to record profits. In particular, he was instrumental in the change management at Gunung Raja Paksi, Indonesia’s largest privately owned steel company.
